Couscous (dry) measurement conversions
Recipes switch between volume (cups, tablespoons and teaspoons) and weight (grams) all the time, and for couscous (dry) the two aren't interchangeable โ you have to know the density. Couscous (dry) has a density of about 0.72 g/ml, which means:
- 1 cup of couscous (dry) โ 173 g
- 1 dl of couscous (dry) โ 72 g
- 1 tablespoon of couscous (dry) โ 10.8 g
- 1 teaspoon of couscous (dry) โ 3.6 g
Measuring tip. These figures are for dry, uncooked couscous. It roughly doubles in volume once steamed, so measure it dry.
The pages below give you each specific conversion โ pick the exact one you need, with a full table and a calculator for any amount. When a recipe really matters, a kitchen scale beats every volume measure: weight ignores how packed or sifted the couscous (dry) is.
